Sometimes I get the urge to get that tumblr reblog ancestry exactly right —who begat whom begat whom begat whom —to find original sources often lost in the endless reblogging. Megan Cump, in this case, appears to be the photographer -which fact was lost some two steps into the reblogfest- though I can’t find the exact picture in her site, so who knows. It has the look of her other photographs, though.

I watched the first 3 episodes on the plane back to China yesterday and am SO hooked. But something’s missing… the show is not as good as it could be. I wish it were as creepy and arresting and lush as the title sequence.

(via Art of the Title. Also included: a featurette that expands on the title sequence, and the opening scene to the documentary Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus, which True Blood’s credits borrow heavily from.)

True Blood, much as I love it, turned out to be an occasionally emo romance/comedy. The title sequence -the whole “creepy southern gothic” shtick- is way misleading, more’s the pity. But really, is it possible to do vampires as anything other than comedy any more?
